about EBC

The clubhouse

The clubhouse is central to social events at Elton Boat Club. We have a fully fitted kitchen with a fridge/freezer,  oven, microwave and dishwasher.  Male and Female shower rooms, a Television and seating area, books to borrow, a patio area and a private car park.  Members have full access to the clubhouse at all times other than when a social event is taking place. Visiting boats may use the clubhouse only when a member of EBC is present.

Club FACILITIES

The club has all the facilities required for general maintenance of members boats, this includes a slipping trolley for boats to spend a couple of weeks out of the water for essential repairs or anti-fouling. There is a pressure washer for cleaning boats, a working mooring with electricity for minor repairs, Elsan toilet disposal and a water point for topping up tanks. The club is not able to accommodate long term project boats. The closest diesel and petrol is at Oundle Marina which is about three hours by boat.

Elton Boat club history

1973 to 2023. EBC 50th anniversary

Elton boat club was started in 1973 close to Elton Lock a little further downstream from its current location. In late 1973 Ayston cruising club gave up their moorings at Warmington Mill and the land owner Elton Estates offered the space to the fledgling Elton Boat Club.  A stone building next to Warmington Mill became the first clubhouse and at that time had no floor and parts of the roof were open to the sky. The club members wasted no time and soon had the roof fixed and a floor laid. The first commodore was John Crerar. Membership was £1 and a mooring was £4. By 1974 most of the moorings were full and the club had its first AGM on the 23rd February 1974. Later additions added running water to the clubhouse, electricity had to wait until 1975 and flushing toilets until 1977!

In 2002 the club moved into a new purpose built clubhouse which is the timber building you will see today. The new building added hot showers which are welcome after a long day out boating.
